What are the best Belgian chocolates?

Almond Truffles! :-) I know, some prefer pralines, others prefer Cote d'or chocolate, others prefer Godiva... We cannot discuss our chocolate tastes. Myself I prefer a basic chocolate with some almonds or any nuts for that matter. Trying to have a mouthful yet not all will be chocolate, my 2 cents advice of keeping skinny while eating chocolates...

The best Belgian chocolates are the easy ones...

A very easy way of making delicious Belgian chocolates is making Belgian Chocolate Truffles. Truffles are bite size Belgian Chocolates to which a lot of flavourings can be added : from liqueurs to essences. These almond truffles are basic chocolate truffles, no flavours are added but an extra bite from almonds.

This is how I always ate the Belgian chocolates truffles when my grandma made them, personally I like them even more basic without the almonds but then that goes against the skinny feeling (yet who cares...).

Best Belgian chocolates: ingredients

  • 4 3/8 ounce (125 gr) chocolate : grated
  • 1 3/4 ounce (50 gr) butter
  • 1 egg-yolk
  • 2 5/8 ounce (75 gr) icing sugar (powder sugar)
  • 1 ounce (30 gr) almonds
  • extra cacao-powder and powder sugar to coat the Belgian chocolate truffles

  1.  Melt the chocolate au-bain-marie : in a hot water bath
  2. Beat the butter until it becomes creamy.
  3. Stir under the butter the egg-yolk, sugar and chocolate. Mix well
  4. Stir lastly the almonds in the mixture, mix well.
  5. Let all cool down, until the chocolate mixture becomes stiff.
  6. In a round glass (so you can see through what is happening...), add a mixture of cacao powder and icing sugar. Make little balls from the chocolates and swirl them around in the cacao-powder icing-sugar mixture.
