Yes, Keith Floyd is dead at 65 after a battle with bowel cancer. Unfortunately he had no chance in winning his battle over bowel cancer, as he wasn’t able to do everything right like metastatic liver cancer survivors do:

• unlike Patrick Swayze who outlived his prognosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer supported by his loving wife and dog, Keith Floyd’s death will most likely be applauded by his 4th divorced wife
   
• both Patrick Swayze and Keith Floyd kept by their addictions after being diagnosed with cancer: Patrick Swayze kept smoking, although less than the Marlboro man, Keith Floyd kept on drinking his favorite wines, even had to be admitted to hospital due to fatigue after an evening in the pub
   
• both men however showed an extreme passion and love for life, but again, if you want to survive cancer, you need to do everything right!

Jamie Oliver, well know of course from The Naked Chef and Angelina Jolie equally famous wife of Mister Pitt had kind of a "misunderstanding".

All started when nice celebrity chef Jamie Oliver watched Angelina Jolie’s Beowulf and had to ring the actress up.

While Jamie was blushing not to mention Angelina Jolie’s hotness in the movie, our chef did what he does best: cooking up a storm with a split of the tongue by calling Angelina and Brad Pitt’s daughter “Piloh Shit” instead of “Shiloh Pitt.”

Now knowing Jamie Oliver, does he do things like that on purpose or not?

Antonio Carluccio quick dinner spaghetti recipe

I saw Jamie Oliver doing this quick dinner spaghetti recipe as well, but Jamie Oliver should have pointed out that his inspiration came from Antonio Carluccio, which as we all know is one of the favorite chefs of Jamie Oliver anyway.

The trick in getting your dinner recipe done quickly is not savoring your own minced meat, but using the minced meat of your favorite sausages you buy from your local butcher. In other words: let your butcher do the work for you and have a quick dinner spaghetti ready in the time needed to cook your spaghetti!

Quick dinner spaghetti recipe ingredients

• 400g / 14oz of your favorite pasta
• salt

For the spaghetti sauce:

• 6 tablespoons olive oil
• 1 small onion, finely chopped
• 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
• 300g / 10½oz fresh Italian sausage (luganega, but you can really use any sausage of your preference), meat removed from the casing and crumbled
• 35g / 1¼oz dried porcini mushrooms, soaked in water for half an hour, then finely chopped (keep the liquid)
• 3 tablespoons dry white wine
• 600g / 1 lb 5oz polpa di pomodoro (crushed tomatoes)
• salt and pepper, to taste

Quick dinner spaghetti recipe preparation

For the spaghetti sauce:

1. Heat oil in a casserole, add onion and let cook for 5 minutes over a moderate heat until the onion is softened.
2. Add the garlic and cook for another minute until the fragrance of the garlic comes out.
3. Add the meat of the sausages and porcini.
4. Allow to brown while stirring.
5. Pour in the wine and the tomato pulp and leave to cook over a very low heat for as long as you have time!
6. If more moisture is needed, add a little of the mushroom soaking liquid.
7. When ready, season to taste with salt and pepper.

Cook the pasta in plenty of boiling salted water until al dente. Take a long cooking pasta, so it will be ready while you are making your pasta sauce.

Mix the pasta with the sauce and serve immediately hot.

First and foremost FOWA stands for the Future Of Web Apps which is a big conference held at this very moment in London. I used to go to such events as I love all new technology + the buzz that some of these speakers can create is just word your cup of coffee. Not to mention the free cups of coffee afterwards and a bag full of technology goodies.

But reaching the age of Bill Gates myself (not his money unfortunately) I have kind of seen it all.

It reminds me a lot about coffee: you need to pay more for your coffee each year but the taste remains exactly the same.

Very similar when it comes to computers I find. They cost more just to get a more demanding program using up more demanding CPU so you have to pay through your nose for better performing computers, yet what is the end result? Nothing has changed much.

If you put your coffee in a fancy cup, does therefore the coffee taste become better? According to Starbucks the answer is yes. According to Bill Gates the answer is yes as well. Really, I haven’t seen much progress from windows for networks in the Stone ages until now Windows Vista.

You say you did? Maybe I am blind… I loved Coffee Cup during those Java programming days I nicely participated in. But with just a few bells and extra whistles, what really can bother me about the Future Of Web Apps?

My wishes for Fowa and the Internet

I just wish for 3 things:

• make something else than bandwidth the limiting factor on the Internet and you catch my attention!
• and make the whole Internet wireless
• and make my laptop battery last 24 hours in stead of 4…

You guys at FOWA: Mobility is still a joke: try to get online for 24 hours without a wire…
be it to get electricity, be it to connect.

What’s happening around Athens is hot like we don’t want it: forests are on fire, temperatures keep above 30 degrees and no rain expected, very sad news from Greece, although here in Kos all is ok, life as usual.

Neighbour Malaysia unfortunately again in the news and again for the wrong reasons. People have been protesting because of the so called provocative Gwen Stefani clothes, yet on the streets of Malaysia not only crazy boys are doing stunts on their motorbikes, they are joined with Minah Rempit: basically the girlfriends of the mat rempit who were fed up being traded amongst the boys just like the motorbikes were traded amongst the boys.

All this is sad but understandable in a country where education is poor, every child takes up an amazing amount of extra tutoring and last Sunday the online newspaper was saying that there was a crackdown on private tutoring… What is wrong with wanting education?

How did I do that? By eating out less, changing my diet and especially cutting down on supper and outside oily food like:

• Pisang Goreng (fried bananas)
• my favorite fatty drinks like Teh-Ais (ice tea with lots of condensed milk)
• Kopi-Ais (ice coffee with lots of condensed milk)

Drinking out I order most of the time barley water, which they say has a positive effect on your cholesterol levels as well.

And nowadays I have 3 breakfasts a week eating oats (bleigh…!) but hey, if it makes me healthy and I am able to eat some fried bananas in moderation, I can live with that!

Eating out in Malaysia is like visiting paradise, just know that you step into a cholesterol war-zone…

If you visit Malaysia, then come during the durian season, which just started now. Better is to come when the durain season is in full swing. Why? Because:

• of the incredible amount of durian supply and
• nobody believes a western eats durians,

Now at the beginning of the season, the durian above cost me 13Rm, which is about 4$. I could have got a discount even more if I would consume the durian right in front of the road fruit stall I was buying it from, but I do like to eat “durian dinner” being relaxed in the aircon… I am a spoilt brat expat in Malaysia

Malaysia holidays army style?

Now what to think here: a Malaysian girl in uniform, and a head of a squirrel on a stick… wasn’t the army supposed to protect the country in stead of cooking its resources? And if you do cook squirrel or any other small animal, aren’t there better parts to cook up in stead of the head?

Yet Malaysians do have the tendency to get in the news with funny food ideas. Now Malaysians girls are cooking squirrels. A few months ago a Malaysian scientist came up with the idea of experimenting in space how to make our national tea drink: tea tarik in zero gravity…

In case you got carried away: Malaysia is the melting point of many Asian cultures and has a lot of very tasty food to offer. A lot? Malaysia is food paradise, yet don’t go to the army to eat, go to the plentiful coffee shops or restaurants.

To get new inspiration, I took a look at the cream I am using for my osteo-arthritis and it said: contains Aescin or Horse Chestnut. I remembered the chestnuts we used to throw in the fire when we were kids (please don not do this at home..) and eating them fresh or roasted.

Yet this is Horse Chestnut: it looks like normal chestnut but it is completely different (husk of the horse chestnut has less "hairs" and only 1 big horse chestnut seed). Most important: the fresh fruits of:

Yet horse chestnut can be consumed in:

For those not having arthritis nor osteoarthritis: joints inside the body become painful, not to mention the joints, so also person is getting less mobile as well.
