How healthy is Chocolate?

Like with all food: there is a saying: be moderate. If I say chocolates are healthy, and you change your diet to only chocolates… then of course chocolates are not healthy anymore…
Real chocolate has blood pressure lowering qualities and chocolate has a substance that enhances your good mood
Home-made chocolate
As usual: what you cook yourself is what you know: if you make your own Belgian chocolate truffles, you know what you are eating as you…
know your ingredients.
And here is where things get important: all things that artificially make a chocolate hard, will also make it hard to go through your digestion-system! It is simple logic but true: chocolates should be made out of :
- cacao
- cacao butter
- organic sugar
- organic ingredients like eggs, cream…
and chocolates should only be allowed to live for 1 week or at most 1 month in a cool fridge: every chocolate that can live longer has ingredients in it that are not beneficial for your health! Or in other words: chocolates that can live longer than 1 month: if you eat those chocolates, it will take days off your life-span…
If you buy chocolates like e.g. Godiva chocolates, then ask the chocolate factory what are the ingredients they are using. If they are using only healthy ingredients and healthy preparations for their chocolates, then it is worth the extra money (which you will save later on: because you keep in good health).

We start off with chili hot and spicy Maggie Q to continue dishing up some quick dinner recipes.
Having been away, The Skinny Cook is full with new ideas and recipes to share with you.
Also we will be updating our Dutch Ons KookBoek site, which has been covered with dust and coffee stains since 2006…
Maggie Q Naked
But if you just came here to have a glimpse of Maggie Q naked (since she doesn’t seems to appear anywhere in the famous Edison Chen Scandal), this is how she has been campaigning for vegetarian food.
Don’t be fooled: red meat can give you cancer, red chilies can only give you a running nose (and a burned stomach if you are not used to eating hot and spicy chilies…)

Maggie Q naked: as hot as the chilies:
you don’t have to eat naked in order to become a vegetarian though…

This is mom’s curry recipe: lots of preparation to do if you only use a mortar and pestle.
A lot of sweat and tears for a delicious curry. More tears if you use an extra amount of chilies…
Quick dinner recipes
This curry chicken recipe is prepared much faster using a blender, but mom swears that the authentic flavor can only be reached by grinding the ingredients manually.
Ingredients Mom’s Curry Chicken
- 1.75 pound (800gr) boneless chicken thighs, skin removed
- 1 ripe tomato, cut into pieces
- 1/2 teaspoon (sea)salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3 tablespoons oil
(A):
- 1 tablespoon mustard seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon fenugreek
- 2 sprigs curry leaves (use the leaves only, not the stems)
- 100g onions, halved and sliced thinly
- 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
- 2 red chilies, seeded and sliced
- 2 green chilies, seeded and sliced
(B):
- 1 tablespoon ground coriander (ketumbar) powder
- 3 tablespoons Chili paste
- 1 tablespoon curry powder (for meat, we love the brand Baba in Malaysia, but choose your own preference)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 7 ounce (200gr) long beans, cut into about 2 inch (4-5cm) lengths
- 2 cups (about half a liter - 470 ml) coconut milk (can be replaced with normal milk, but of course that gives a different taste)
Seasoning:
- 1/2 teaspoon (sea)salt or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon sugar or to taste
- 1 teaspoon chicken stock granules
- Juice of 1 lime
Preparation: Mom’s Curry Chicken
- Marinate chicken with salt, ground black pepper and tomato. Set aside for an hour.
- Heat oil in a pot, fry ingredients (A) until fragrant and onions are lightly browned.
- Mix in ingredients (B) and continue to stir until well blended. Add chicken and coconut milk. Cook covered at a gentle boil for 25-30 minutes.
- Take off the lid of the pot and put in the long beans. Continue to simmer until beans are just cooked. Add seasoning to taste and dish out to serve.
