How healthy is Chocolate?

Like with all food: there is a saying: be moderate. If I say chocolates are healthy, and you change your diet to only chocolates… then of course chocolates are not healthy anymore…
Real chocolate has blood pressure lowering qualities and chocolate has a substance that enhances your good mood
Home-made chocolate
As usual: what you cook yourself is what you know: if you make your own Belgian chocolate truffles, you know what you are eating as you…
know your ingredients.
And here is where things get important: all things that artificially make a chocolate hard, will also make it hard to go through your digestion-system! It is simple logic but true: chocolates should be made out of :
- cacao
- cacao butter
- organic sugar
- organic ingredients like eggs, cream…
and chocolates should only be allowed to live for 1 week or at most 1 month in a cool fridge: every chocolate that can live longer has ingredients in it that are not beneficial for your health! Or in other words: chocolates that can live longer than 1 month: if you eat those chocolates, it will take days off your life-span…
If you buy chocolates like e.g. Godiva chocolates, then ask the chocolate factory what are the ingredients they are using. If they are using only healthy ingredients and healthy preparations for their chocolates, then it is worth the extra money (which you will save later on: because you keep in good health).

The best Belgian chocolate truffles are the ones you make yourself, so you can be sure of choosing the best ingredients. Chocolates should be all natural and healthy: it is any artificial adding (especially those oily additives) that makes chocolates more fattening than they should!
White chocolate truffles
Be aware that white chocolate is a bit more fattening than brown chocolate (maybe just because you tend to eat more…).
The recipe for success for any white dish you want to cook: make sure you are using only white ingredients! For these Belgian chocolates we use white chocolate, white coconut and almost white macadamia nuts.

Do you love chocolate truffles like I do? Skinny or not, I am a die hard chocolate lover!
Look at the pictures on the right and what do you imagine when you read the words Leonidas? Well, I tend to believe that Leonidas was a smart brand made by a Belgian chocolate maker to brand his fine chocolate a bit better worldwide giving it a Greek punch.
Seems I was wrong and am learning from my Greek hosts here in Kos island Greece
According to the proud Greeks around me, native Greek Leonidas Kestekides was the founder of this passionate Belgian gourmet chocolate business. Ok, now I can feel at ease when saying that for me I find Leonidas makes too sweets chocolates
I am a dark chocolate lover after all
Oh well, seems my Belgian roots forget that Belgium maybe has the best gourmet chocolates, but as usual we are nowhere to be found on the international market. Well, what to expect from the country inventing French fries and then France
gets away with the honours…
