Prepare one of these 2 delicious spinach strawberry smoothies so you will enjoy spinach tasting like fruit and you will become as strong as Popeye.
Do you have children that wont eat their veggies? Then serve them this spinach smoothie, also recommended for adults. Don’t judge this smoothie on its color: you need to taste it to believe how deliciously the combination of orange, strawberries and spinach works out.
Spinach benefits
Spinach is Popeye’s superfood that makes him incredibly strong. Now I don’t believe in cartoon superfood but we do know that a healthy diet asks for variation in food.
Organic spinach should taste good, not at all bitter. Baby spinach leaves are an easy addition into any salad, and a quick stir fry in a pan with baked bacon is yummies as well.
But when you go paleo, you know that fresh should be better than cooked. And when you really don’t like the taste of spinach, you can easily hide it into a smoothie with more than 60% of fruits. Better slowly drink a green smoothie than not eating vegetables at all.
Spinach is filled with trace elements: iron, iodine, zinc, copper and selenium. Iron and Iodine: two trace elements which lots of us don’t have enough of.
Let’s talk about iodine: it’s necessary for the proper functioning of your thyroid and brains: too little iodine and your IQ will be 10 to 15 points down (I’m not kidding, read it here in the report of the WHO – the World Health Organization).
Afraid you’re eating too little iodine? You can find it in spinach, but also in everything that originates from the sea (seaweed, mussels..) By the way: when you would eat eight organic eggs a day, you’ll still have the daily recommended intake of iodine. But since we promote variety, get your iodine out of a mix of food, like seafood and spinach
Easy – non paleo – spinach strawberry smoothie
Before paleo came on my radar, I used to make this smoothie with a few strawberries, a bunch of spinach leaves, yoghurt and milk: blend to the right consistency and my green smoothie was ready.
But then came paleo, and people started asking for non diary smoothies. Back to basics… Just the right amount of fruit, veggies and some added orange juice: makes delicious and healthy smoothies as well! Add in a banana or 2 for added sugar and the only thing non paleo about the following recipe is… that our stone aged ancestors didn’t have electric blenders to begin with!
