Vodka soaked watermelon

March 22, 2015 By JS Green Leave a Comment

Enjoy this easy vodka soaked watermelon and witness how eating seemingly harmless watermelon makes your guests lively and brightens up your bbq or party.

The recipe below is given by a friend of mine, who already started this technique at a young age of 14…

For the best taste, use equal amounts of white and red Pushkin vodka. How much vodka you need, really depends on the size of the watermelon: once the melon is saturated with the alcohol, you obviously can’t add anymore. You could easily infuse 2 bottles of vodka into a huge watermelon.

Patience is needed: it takes a long time before the vodka finds its way into the melon. Again all depends on the size, but you need at least one day and mostly 2 to 3 days.

The easiest way is to make a deep hole on top of the melon in which you stick your vodka bottle upside down. Make sure the bottleneck fits exactly into the hole. As such, the bottle will empty itself slowly without anything being spilled. The tricky part is putting this construction into your fridge, so you need to remove a few shelves and make sure the bottle keeps upright.

And why all the effort and a 3 days wait, in stead of making a quick watermelon juice cocktail with added vodka, rum of tequila you might ask? Because… it’s just so much more fun to get drunk while you are eating watermelon…

Do make sure you serve your guests small portions (some parts will contain more alcohol than others) and give seconds depending on their overall reaction.

Be warned: when you have eat watermelon soaked with vodka, do not drive a car! Other than that: have fun!
