Follow the simple rose drawings instructions and watch the video to learn how to draw a rose step by step.
1. The most important step in how to draw a beautiful rose is getting the petals of the rose flowers right. Of course roses come in different shapes and sizes, but the most beautiful rose petals are drawn as "an oval spiral with sharp edges" and it’s "as easy as 1, 2, 3" (step 1 in the rose drawings below):
- make a small arch from left to right
- go back left and make another to the right
- go back left and make another to the right

2. Give your rose shape by drawing 3 S shapes. Dot a point where the stem of the rose should come: as low as you need to go to make your rose base look like an U shape. Draw a S that starts a bit further at the right of your spiral and end in the dot. Draw a mirror S that starts at the left end of your spiral and ends at the dot. Start from the dot and draw another mirror S next to the previous one.
3. Close the 2 outer rose petals by drawing a curved line: the right petal’s curved line ends at the dot or a bit more towards the left, the left petal’s curved line ends on the rose.
Closing all other rose petals:
- 4. draw 3 C shaped lines at the right half of the rose
- 5. draw 2 mirror C shaped lines at the left half of the rose
6. Now draw a small half circle below your rose, for where the stem should be attached.

From here onwards, you are free to draw anything you love: look at a real rose and you will notice that the leaves don’t even look close as what is drawn, yet only a florist will notice. Rose leaves are leaflets of 3 or 5 or 7 leaves: the more expensice the rose, the more leaves there are on the leaflets. Do add some dots or little triangles for thorns and you just learned to draw a rose step by step!
