Both the Zone Diet and the Paleo Diet are based on the lifestyle and the food eaten by our forefathers : they had a diet consisting of mainly meat, vegetables and fruits.
Both diets also notice that are our ancestors were standing up and running around much, much more than we do nowadays. Both lifestyles want you te get out of your chair or sofa and start moving again: doing some exercise or fitness program will help, but it all starts by saying goodbye to a couch potato lifestyle.
How to loose weight?
"Calories in minus calories out equals weight loss or weight gain: is only true when you eat "quality calories". Suppose you know exactly how much calories you burn every day, and you drink the exact same amount of calories out of Coca Cola: you will still gain weight. The reason is simple: the only way your body can get rid of these "fast" sugars, is to transform them into fat.
Therefore the solution is to modify the quality of your food intake. In the Zone Diet, this is done by increasing your protein and fat consumption, plus at the same time reducing your carbohydrates intake (compared to a normal Standard American Diet: 50% carbs, 15% protein and 35% fat). This will result in your body releasing stored fat from your fat-cells to be used as fuel, 24h a day.
Eating the right combination of protein, carbohydrates, and fat at every meal and snack, will allows you to simultaneously lose weight and have more energy from your stored fat.
The paleo diet also stresses the quality of the food that you eat, but is neutral about the ratio of carbs, proteins and fats. For instance:
- The hunter gatherers in Staffan Lindeberg‘s Kitava study follow a "paleo diet" with 69% carbs, 10% protein and 21% fat.
- The Inuit diet consists about 17%carbs, 33% protein and 50% fat.
This means that you can perfectly eat paleo food within the suggested ratio of the Zone Diet which is: 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat.
How fast do you see the results of your new diet?
All depends on how low your intake of quality carbs will be. Typical low carb diets will have a positive influence on your blood sugars. As a result, you will feel less hungry but you’ll be more alert and energized throughout the day. When you consume more energy than your intake, you will notice the weightloss almost immediately (from the first days onwards).
Buying paleo or zone products?
When you go paleo, all you buy is fresh vegetables, fruit, meat, fish… anything that was alive just before you bought it. However, marketing geniuses will lure you into anything paleo or zone that isn’t as close to fresh produce, as it should be. One of these is the ZonePerfect Nutrition Company.
